We’ve all been exposed to that horrible boss or co-worker who is horrible simply because he/she can be. They’re good at their job so they couch their behavior in “being honest” or making you a better person or employee. “Brilliant Jerks” are people I have zero tolerance for. They are people whose contributions are perceived as ”irreplaceable” within an organization, relationship or dynamic. So much that their toxic behavior is often deemed excusable to the detriment of those around them.
We are all human beings first before we are the many titles, positions and levels we hold on to and allow to define us in this human experience. It’s time to break the cycle and do better. It’s time to be better.
Have you ever found yourself spiraling into unhappiness and then after a while, you can’t even figure out how you got there and how to get out of it?
It’s that feeling of falling into quicksand. You’re obviously knee-deep in crap, add to that, the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness and then the icing on top is the fight to get out. Every time you wiggle, push, kick to get out, it feels like you’re sinking further.
So, what next?
? STOP
Then do this.
?Accept what is. Without judgment. You’re in it. It is what it is. This is what is happening, not who you are. Breathe.
What can I do now? ?♀️Now that you’re “feeling clearly” vs. “thinking in panic”, it’s time to look around. What inspired action can you take, here and now? There is always a bridge, a branch, another journeyman/woman that Life can use to help you. Remember, you are no longer approaching a solution from a place of desperation, you are in a full place of allowing. All good things come from this place.

Is it worth your peace? You are greater than your life situation. Know that no person or situation can take your peace unless you allow it. You have to give permission. Asking this question immediately opens a door to presence. It launches you into gratitude for what you already have. You recognize the power that YOU have. You are no victim after all. You have the power to choose better. To be better.
The greatest compliment I ever received from my dear friend Lisa when I released my book was that this illustration on the cover was her mind’s image of me.
I often think about who we are— not what we do or where we live or all those other things we think define us. No jobs, houses, relationships, aspirations — just us.
When I think about that, this image is what I see. Stripped down, not black or white, male or female, poor or rich, CEO or unemployed — just a BEING in bliss.
It’s why I used this on the cover of my book. I wanted it to be a reminder. A reminder of who we are under everything. I wanted it as a reminder that we are not our life situations or experiences. Yes, there will be storms and stops and bumps. There will be times we’ll forget who we really are but when we remember, this image is what we’ll always come back to.
A being having a human experience but not defined by it. A being, who’s in on the joke that nothing about this journey is permanent. A being at peace but most importantly, a being in flow.
In the midst of chaos, it’s often difficult to see the life situation currently suffocating us as exactly what it is —temporary.
One way to gain immediate perspective is to stop telling stories and face the facts. Facts also lead us to see what we have instead of what we don’t have.
By focusing on what we do have, we can only draw more of that into our lives. The challenge this week is, every time you reach to complain, ? ✋?. Reach for gratitude instead. I’ll be doing this all week in hopes of making it a habit.

So many of us often settle. Not because we can’t do better but because we think where we are is good enough. The problem is, good enough can be a trap.
Patience is something that I often struggle with. I am literally the kid in the back of the car asking “are we there yet?” every 5 minutes. These days, I’m learning that patience and trust go hand in hand. I’m also learning that if I had the courage to ask for something BIG, I need to have the courage to wait for it.
Having a dream is expensive. It is taxing on the body, mind, and soul, even though you love this thing so much. It takes a lot out of you, from you. To live on purpose, to discover, to be your purpose, to be great, truly great in this life, it costs something. The question is, are you willing to pay the price?

Fear. The place where a lot of our insecurities, doubt and everything in between stems from. There are some fears that are so damaging — they show up not in our times of failure but in our times of success. They are the fears that threaten to take us back to the traumas we’ve already survived. The fear of being poor again, being homeless again, being alone again, failing again.
The only way through these fears is to tell the truth about them. But first, you have to know what that truth is.

The only way to end suffering is presence. Your mind will tell you that it’s too simple to be a solution but have you ever stopped to ask your mind why it repeats the same thoughts over and over again? What is the actual point of that loop? There’s no solution, just comfort in what we know, no matter how destructive and dysfunctional. The only way out of the loop, out of the insanity is presence. To be in whatever is happening and wherever we are fully and wholly. We seem to be the only creatures who think that we can deny what is, fight against nature and her current, and actually win.
The funny thing is that whatever is actually happening in the present moment is rarely ever the problem. What rules is fear—fear of loss, sadness, solitude, and emptiness. So, if presence is the end of suffering, the acceptance of what is as it is—then embracing the present moment is the only way out. Life is transient; it is flux. What is, is what is. It might change and it might not, but, most likely, it will.
